AI-First Development: Integrating LLMs into Enterprise Apps

AI-First Development: Integrating LLMs into Enterprise Apps

The AI Add-on Fallacy

Many enterprises are rushing to add "AI features" to their legacy platforms. This usually takes the form of a bolted-on chatbot in the corner of the screen. This is the equivalent of adding a motor to a horse buggy instead of building a car.

True AI integration requires an AI-first architectural approach.

Prompt Injection and Security

When LLMs are deeply integrated into an application's core logic (e.g., executing database queries or formatting user data), security becomes paramount. We utilize strict boundary layers:

  1. Input Sanitization Layers: All user input is classified before being passed to the core model.
  2. Constrained Output Formats: We force LLMs to respond in strict JSON schemas using tools like OpenAI's function calling.
  3. The Sandbox: Code generated by AI is executed in highly restricted, ephemeral environments.

The UX of Waiting

LLMs are inherently slow compared to traditional API calls. Designing for this latency is critical. We use optimistic UI updates, streaming text responses, and skeleton loaders to keep the user engaged while the model "thinks."

The next generation of enterprise software won't just have AI features; the entire UX will be dynamically generated by AI.
